Additionally, in 2021, Spain had a heart transplant rate of 6.5 per million population, which was the fifth-highest rate in Europe in this year.
Waiting on the transplant list
In 2021, there were almost 6.9 thousand patients in Spain waiting for a kidney with a further 1.6 thousand patients on the liver transplant list. Although in 2021, there were 45 and 12 patients who died on the transplant list waiting for liver and lung transplants respectively.
